COLOSSIANS STUDY WEEK 2 – DAY 4

Colossians 1: 19-20

“For God in all his fullness was pleased to live in Christ, and through him God reconciled everything to himself. He made peace with everything in heaven and on earth by means of Christ’s blood on the cross.” – Colossians 1: 19-20

This study is based off of the series The Clarity of Mystery. Click Below to watch it now.

When we think of reconciliation, we think of two people that have ended a relationship and then come back together. That’s not what happened here. The Bible says we are the ones who left God. He didn’t leave us. We left Him. And God had every right to leave us alone to suffer the eternal consequences of our sin; but instead the Bible says Jesus humbled Himself and came to die for our sins. And the way He reconciled us to God was not through His birth in a manger; it was through His death on a cross. 1 John 4:10 says it this way: “ This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins”

The Bible says we were lost in our sin. We were so lost that we couldn’t find God. So He found us. I love the lyrics to a song by Hillsong; It says:

“I was found before I was lost
I was Yours before I was not Grace to spare for all my mistakes And that part just wrecks me.”

How true is that. You may feel lost, you may feel as if you are the weight of your mistakes. But God and Scripture says differently. You are chosen. You belong. You are forgiven. And it is ALL because of Jesus, our reconciler. Jesus is so great because He made peace between God and us. Jesus brings us near to God. The goal of the cross was simply to reconcile us to Him. If you are a believer and follower of Jesus, live knowing that you are not apart from God. You have been reconciled to Him.

Lord, Thank You for your work on the cross. For the excruciating and selfless act all so that I could be reconciled to God. Help me to live today and everyday with gratitude. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
