Put to Death.

These are powerful words from Paul found in Colossians 3:5 telling us to leave our sinful ways in the past. Paul is not just saying to try change our earthly nature, but to put it to death. These are not easy words to hear. In fact, Paul tells us that the wrath of God is coming because of our earthly nature. Although these words may be daunting, we can be assured we do not have to fight on our own.

In Romans 15:5-6 Paul wrote to the Roman church: “May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had, so that with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

As followers of Christ, every action, word, and decision should be pleasing to the Lord. This can only be done by fully committing to Jesus Christ and shedding ourselves of our sinful ways. We can find an unshakeable strength through the encouragement and endurance found in Christ. One of our three core beliefs at Lifepointe is: People Grow in Community. It is so important that we surround ourselves with a community of individuals who encourage us to grow stronger in our relationship with the Lord. As Christians, it is our responsibility to hold each other accountable and actively seek to honor the Lord with our words and actions.

“Then Jesus said to his disciples, ‘Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it.’”
Matthew 16:24-25

Reflection:
In what ways is the Lord calling you to deny yourself and fully commit to Him?
How can you keep yourself accountable to actively seek after the Lord?
